VFLL Championship Weekend

The Victoria Field Lacrosse League welcomes all lacrosse fans to this weekends' Championship Tournament at the University of Victoria turf fields (Field 2A - Saturday) and (Field 3 - Sunday).

The action starts Saturday evening at 6pm when the first place Knights led by transition midfielder Chase Jaeger takes on the Phantom led by workhorse Josh Nelson. The Knights roster is well rounded and they have set the bar high for teams in future seasons. The Phantom are the "working man's" team; their roster consisting of mainly tradesmen and some graduating Vancouver Island Field Lacrosse League players. Much of the season for the Phantom has been "who's not working this weekend?" but they are not discouraged and know that all it takes is one game to turn the tides. This game will feature two of the best goalkeepers in the VFLL.

The Knights Will Chiasson (club - Victoria Field) will backstop the gold and brown and T.J. Prokop (club - Mid Island Lightning) will deflect the rubber for the Phantom.

The second game of the evening will see the 2nd place Goal Diggers led by face-off specialist Riley Condon taking on the 3rd place Plugs guided by dual position specialist Steve Higgs (attack/midfield). The 'Diggers narrowly won the season series between the two teams (2-1-1) but the two teams are very evenly matched and this game will be extremely exciting.

The Goal Diggers goaltending duo of Brett Savory and Doug White (club - unknown/old) have shared the duties all-season long will look to lift their team into the finals. At the other end of the field, Dan Ormiston (club - Pacific Rim) and Alex Pocetti (club - *nightclubs <lol>) have backstopped the Plugs this season and are charged to help get their team in the inaugural VFLL Championship game.

The VFLL Championship Game will take place on UVIC's Turf field #3 at 7pm on Sunday March 19th between the two winning teams from Saturday. Unfortunately, the game will not be televised as TSN will be in Indian Wells, California covering the BNP Paribas Open and Sportsnet is covering the World Baseball Classic in Miami, Florida at the IoanDepot Park.

Between these two semi-final games, the VFLL will be presenting awards for 1st & 2nd All-Star teams. We are concluding our initial season; the players and officials have endured a lot over these past few months and the VFLL would like to recognize our players on a job well done! Ballots have been received and those selected to this years' All-Star teams have been selected and voted on by their peers.

We welcome all supporters and fans of field lacrosse to attend the games this weekend. Admission is free! *Reminder... all spectators are asked to watch the game from the opposite side of the field from the players bench/sidelines or from the end line spectator viewing area on the CARSA Building.

Field season is drawing to a close. Come on out and catch the exciting game action of the Victoria Field Lacrosse League!
