Plugs & Goal Diggers Draw Even, Phantom Outmanned by Knights
The first game of the evening saw the Plugs (1-1) take on the Goal Diggers (1-1-1) in Victoria Field Lacrosse League action at the University of Victoria turf fields Sunday night.
The Plugs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead but the Goal Diggers answer back a few minutes later to tie the game. From there, the Plugs goaltender Alex Pocetti shut the door and the GD's were stymied the rest of the quarter while the Plugs buried three more tallies to take a 4-1 lead into the 2nd quarter. Then with an about-face, the tides turned and it was the GD's that potted 8 goals in the quarter to only one for the Plugs making the score 9-5 for the Diggers over the Plugs at half.
Both teams' defenses would be the factor in the third quarter as the Plugs took the quarter 2-1 but were still down in the match by the score of 10-7. But anything could happen in a field lacrosse game and it clearly did this evening as the Plugs held the Diggers to one goal in the final quarter and got two of their own with minutes left. Then a timeout and a goal by Captain Canada made the score 11-10 Diggers and possession would be key. The Plugs win possession of the draw, call another timeout and draw up a play to hopefully even the score. Then with a change of possession and a steal at half, the Plugs Colin Bell slid his way through two defenders to take a sidearm shot while falling to the turf; narrowly flying by the left leg of goalie Brett Savory to tie the game with just .06 seconds left. The game then ended in a tie.

The second game of the evening saw the Phantom (0-1) take on the Knights (1-0-1) to round out the games on Sunday night.
The Phantom fell behind early awaiting their offensive players to arrive and their second goalie stepping in at the last minute. The Knights took advantage of odd-man opportunities and dropped passes to take the first quarter 6-0. From there, that was all the Phantom would spot them as both teams fought hard the remainder of the game.
The final three quarters saw both teams go end of end in a very even ball game with the Knights winning these quarters by the score of 6-5, taking home the victory 12-5 and taking top spot in the Victoria Field Lacrosse League standings.
