Knights 4th Quarter Barrage Ties Game

The newly named "Goal Diggers" returned to action this evening to face the Knights who were playing their first game of the VFLL season.

The GD's jumped out to an early lead a minute into the contest on a goal by Colten Merilainen but minutes later, the Knights Cody Clark would even up the match. GD's Riley Condon would put the visitors up by two and Merilainen would make it three before the Knights' Brian Robb would put the 2nd of the game in for the home team.

In the second quarter teams would trade goals before the Goal Diggers would pot three more (G. Cullen, B. Cullen and Condon) but the Knights would answer with one of their own by Cody Clark after a GD turnover at center to make the score 7-4 at halftime.

The third quarter was a chess match with both teams' goaltenders appearing to have forcefields around them... or the shooters were just horrible. If you were at the game, you can be the judge! The Knights Adam "Gator" Golia buried two goals at 3:50 and with :02 seconds remaining in the quarter after a team timeout, and the GD's mustered a goal at :23 of the frame with it coming off the stick of Colten Merilainen. To head into the 4th quarter, the visiting Goal Diggers had an 8-6 lead.

The visitors started the scoring with goals by Merilainen and 2 more from everybody's favourite realtor, Dane Sorensen and they now had an 11-6 lead. With the wind picking up and a bit of a mist or drizzle falling, the Knights rallied for a late comeback in tremendous fashion. With two goals each by Cole Christiaens and Adam Golia and a single by Cody Clark, the home team Knights mounted the late comeback and tied the game at 11 with just over a minute to play. Each team tried  to muster one good shot in the last minute but each teams' "D" was stingy and both teams walked out from the game with a point.
